PPF thickness should match the job instead of only following a fixed number. A 6.5 mil film is easier to handle on curved parts, door edges, mirrors, and small panels. A 7.5 mil film gives a middle feel, so it is often easier to keep as daily stock for different car models. An 8.5 mil film feels firmer, and many shops use this kind of thickness when they want more body on front panels or larger surfaces.
The installer should also look at cutting waste, stretch habit, panel shape, and customer budget. A thicker film is not always easier to install, and a thinner film is not always the better choice. Testing one roll before a large order is a simple way to check the cutting line, adhesive feel, and final surface. It also helps workers decide which thickness fits their normal car orders.
